The ACLU of Colorado is pleased to announce that Stephen Meswarb has accepted the position of Development Director.

Meswarb will begin his duties June 1, 2010, upon moving to Denver from New York City, He will be responsible for managing all aspects of the organization’s fundraising, including major gifts, planned giving, foundation grants, special events, and the “Guardian of Liberty” monthly giving program.

A Colorado native, Meswarb brings nearly 20 years of non-profit fundraising experience to his new position, including eight years working for the national ACLU. He spent the last three years managing the ACLU’s $335 million Leading Freedom Forward campaign, the largest campaign on behalf of civil rights and civil liberties in the country’s history. Prior to that, he served as Development Director for Demos, a public policy research and advocacy organization, and the Callen-Lorde Community Health Center.

“I look forward to bringing my passion for social justice and civil liberties to my home state of Colorado,” said Meswarb. “I consider myself extremely fortunate. Very few people in the world have the opportunity to work for causes they feel passionate about, and even fewer have the chance to move across the country and continue working for the same vitally important organization.”

“We are very excited to have Stephen join the ACLU of Colorado’s team,” said ACLU of Colorado executive director C. Ray Drew. “His dedication and incomparable experience will make him an invaluable asset in our fight to protect the freedoms and liberties of all Coloradans.”
