WASHINGTON – Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) announced the creation of two new subcommittees late Monday. The Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Human Rights will be chaired by Sen. Richard Durbin (D-IL) and the Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law will be chaired by Sen. Al Franken (D-MN).

The following can be attributed to Laura W. Murphy, Director of the American Civil Liberties Union Washington Legislative Office:

“Senator Leahy is to be commended for spearheading the creation of two new subcommittees with such a future-minded approach to protecting human rights and constitutional principles. We look forward to working with both subcommittee Chairmen, Senator Durbin and Senator Franken, and the entire Senate Judiciary Committee to make sure Americans’ freedoms remain intact and civil and human rights are upheld.”
