A new report by the Muslim American Civil Liberties Coalition (MACLC), Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR), and the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) concludes that the NYPD’s suspicionless surveillance of Muslim communities across the Northeast significantly chilled their exercise of free speech and religion. Because of the spying, some Muslims reduce their attendance at Mosques, refuse to wear traditional Muslim clothes, and engage in self-censorship.
