Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced today that his office provided local governments and law enforcement agencies with a legal roadmap to enact sanctuary city policies and protect vulnerable immigrant communities.

The following is attributable to Donna Lieberman, executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union:

“We commend the Attorney General for providing model policies that will improve public safety, protect immigrants and support trust between communities and police. Facing potential federal overreach from the Trump administration’s unacceptable immigration platform, we encourage all cities and counties to adopt these policies to protect the rights of all New Yorkers. We look forward to working with them to make sanctuary cities a reality across the state.”
