Last month, Senators Wyden and Udall raised serious concerns to the reauthorization of the Patriot Act because of the government’s secret interpretation of the law, which reportedly allows for much broader collection than the plain language of the law would allow. After a classified briefing for the Senate Intelligence Committee on the issue, Senator Udall could only say that the government was engaging in dragnet surveillance and that “innocent Americans are getting swept up in this.”
