SAN FRANCISCO — A federal appeals court has upheld the temporary block on the Trump administration’s asylum ban.

The American Civil Liberties Union and partner organizations secured the temporary restraining order last month to halt the policy as their challenge is litigated. On Nov. 30, a district judge rejected the administration’s request to stay the order; today the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied the government’s appeal of that ruling.

ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt had this reaction:

“The Ninth Circuit’s decision to keep the asylum ban blocked is consistent with the decision Congress has made and will save save lives.”
