FBI documents reveal profiling of N. California Muslims (latimes.com)
FBI documents reveal that from 2004 through at least 2008, FBI agents in San Francisco engaged in a “mosque outreach” program, which was used to collect intelligence on the Northern California Muslim community under the guise of community outreach. The documents indicate the information collected, which consisted primarily of First Amendment protected activity, was labeled “positive intelligence” and disseminated to other intelligence or law enforcement agencies outside of the FBI, potentially in violation of the Privacy Act. The surveillance was uncovered in documents that were disclosed as part of joint Freedom of Information Act requests by the ACLU or Northern California, the Asian Law Caucus and the San Francisco Bay Guardian.
