The federal government arrested an environmental activist for publishing a blog on Huffington Post, claiming it was a violation of the terms of his conditional release from a seven-year prison sentence for arson. The blog post discussed the activist’s transfer to and incarceration in a Communications Management Unit from 2008-2010, which was intended to restrict his political speech. The activist has since been re-released and returned to the halfway house in which he resides, after his lawyers pointed out that the prison rule prohibiting inmates from “publishing under a byline” was ruled unconstitutional in 2007.
