Courts Block New Trump Administration Muslim Ban
A federal district court in Hawaii last night temporarily blocked President Trump’s new Muslim ban before it was set to take effect at midnight. In a separate challenge, the American Civil Liberties Union and partner organizations won a partial victory in federal district court in Maryland on Thursday morning when a judge suspended the ban on immigration from six majority Muslim countries. Both orders have nationwide scope.
The following statement is attributable to New York Civil Liberties Union Executive Director Donna Lieberman:
“The courts have once again rejected the Trump regime’s disingenuous attempt to pretend this latest order isn’t about discrimination against Muslims. Religious freedom and equality are hallmarks of our country and our laws, and we will not tire in our fight to defeat his discriminatory policies.”
