Indianapolis—A litigator with thirteen years’ experience in trial and appellate work has joined the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana legal team. Kelly Eskew, who also teaches ethics and law at Butler University and Indiana University McKinney School of Law, began her position as Staff Attorney today.
Eskew earned her Juris Doctor degree from the IU McKinney School in 2001. She also earned a Master of Arts in United States History from IU in 2012. In 2009, she was recognized as a Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation.
The ACLU of Indiana has a legal docket of more than 40 active cases, including litigation on behalf of same-sex couples seeking marriage equality in Indiana, a First Amendment case against the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles for its arbitrary administration of the state’s personalized license plate program, and an Eighth Amendment case against the Indiana Department of Correction on behalf of mentally ill prisoners being held in isolation at state facilities. The Indiana affiliate of the National ACLU receives around 800 requests every month for legal assistance.
