NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee is marking the first day of early voting on October 17 with a celebration and world premiere screening of the film “Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook.”

Shot during the chaotic 2016 election, “Rigged: The Voter Suppression Playbook” identifies and unpacks a ten-part political strategy to suppress the voting rights of millions of Americans. Robert Redford narrates this documentary on how political operatives developed and pursued this plan for years before anyone noticed.

One of the film’s executive producers, Timothy Smith, will introduce the film.

“Now more than ever, we have to vote as if our rights depend on it,” said ACLU-TN Executive Director Hedy Weinberg. “We are hosting this event to help people fully understand not only the effort to suppress votes nationwide, but – more importantly – to encourage people to fight back by exercising their right to vote.”

The event is being co-sponsored by the American Muslim Advisory Council, The Equity Alliance, the League of Women Voters of Tennessee, Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi, Tennessee Equality Project, the Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition, and Tennessee NAACP.

The screening is taking place at the Belcourt Theatre, located at 2102 Belcourt Avenue in Nashville. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. The event will kick off with a celebration from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. The film screening will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Seats can be reserved at http://bit.ly/vote-early-2018 or by contacting ACLU-TN at 615-320-7142 or aclutn@aclu-tn.org.

Attendees who wear an “I Voted” sticker will receive a free gift, while supplies last.
