DALLAS — The off-duty Dallas police officer accused of killing Botham Jean in his own apartment was arrested earlier this week for manslaughter. The case is now in the hands of the Dallas County District Attorney’s office to further investigate and recommend a charge to the grand jury.

Kali Cohn, staff attorney for the ACLU of Texas, had this reaction:

“The world grieves with the family of Botham Jean. To date, only the accused officer’s account of his killing is part of the formal public record. We urge the District Attorney’s office to treat Officer Amber Guyger with the same process that any other accused would receive to ensure justice is served in this case and a fair trial is pursued with a sense of urgency.”
