NEW YORK — The Trump administration released its official national security strategy today.

Hina Shamsi, director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s National Security Project, had this reaction:

“It’s hard to take seriously a strategy with so many empty references to rights and the rule of law when every day the Trump administration’s actions violate both under the guise of national security.

“We’re focused on when Trump’s actions and his words match, and the negative record from key policies is starkly clear. From the Muslim ban to the dramatic surge in lethal strikes in majority-Muslim countries to deportation, surveillance, and vetting policies targeting vulnerable immigrants and minorities, Trump is doubling down on bigotry and injustice. Trump’s policies are causing devastating harm to people at home and abroad, as well as to this country’s actual security interests.”
