ACLU Statement on Groundbreaking Harvard Admissions Case

BOSTON — Following today’s decision in a challenge to Harvard’s practices on admissions, ReNika Moore, Director of the American Civil Liberties Union’s Racial Justice Program highlighted the need to consider all criteria in an increasingly diverse society and issued the following statement.

“We are glad the court recognized this lawsuit for what it is: a vehicle for an anti-affirmative action agenda, not a righteous fight for equality. Harvard’s right to set its own institutional goals and consider all aspects of a prospective student’s background – including race – is Constitutional and critical to becoming a more inclusive society. We stand with the court in embracing a student’s right to advocate the value of your unique background, heritage, and perspective.”
