ACLU Responds to Kentucky Gov. Bevin's Executive Order on Voting Rights
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin issued an executive order yesterday reversing former Governor Steve Beshear’s order to extend voting rights to some formerly incarcerated individuals who completed their sentences.
Dale Ho, Director of ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, had this comment:
“Voting is a fundamental right in our democracy, and Kentucky has suffered too long under some of the harshest disenfranchisement laws in the United States. While we are disappointed by Governor Bevin’s actions, he said he will honor those who have already had their rights restored, and we expect that he stays true to that promise.”
