ACLU-PA Supports Bipartisan Agenda for Women’s Health
HARRISBURG – Today the bipartisan Women’s Health Caucus of the Pennsylvania General Assembly unveiled this session’s Agenda for Women’s Health. The agenda includes 13 bills that promote family-friendly working conditions, physical health, freedom from violence and abuse, and economic fairness.
The following can be attributed to Reggie Shuford, Executive Director of the ACLU of Pennsylvania:
“The Agenda for Women’s Health proposes sensible legislative fixes to troubling health issues that affect Pennsylvania women today. The ACLU of Pennsylvania is proud to stand with fellow advocates and supportive legislators for these common sense solutions.
“We know that women across the state are being forced out of their jobs while pregnant because their employers refuse to make reasonable accommodations or aren’t provided with a private, sanitary space to express breast milk when they return to work. These bills would strengthen protections for pregnant and breastfeeding women in the workplace and ensure that no woman in Pennsylvania is forced to choose between the health of her pregnancy and her job. We urge lawmakers to come together to pass these bills and other important pieces of legislation in the Agenda, in order to improve the health and well-being of Pennsylvania women and families.”
