The ACLU of Nevada was in court again Wednesday to finalize a new Description of Effect for the embattled anti-sanctuary cities ballot petition. The Nevada Supreme Court invalidated the Prevent Sanctuary Cities initiative and ruled its description was misleading to voters.

Even with a new Description of Effect, news reports suggest it is unlikely the initiative will have time to gather the necessary signatures in time for this year’s elections.

ACLU of Nevada Executive Director Tod Story said:

“We’re pleased that Nevada voters in 2018 will not be subjected to a deceptive and divisive campaign ploy masquerading as a policy proposal. If our communities are faced with this proposal again, then they will at least be informed that this will significantly limit the power of local governments to implement their own policies according to local priorities.”
