ACLU of Nebraska Urges Congressional Delegation to Pass Dream Act

LINCOLN, Neb – President Trump reportedly told Senate Republicans at a White House meeting today that legislation addressing Dreamers’ status should not be included as part of the end of the year spending package.

ACLU of Nebraska Executive Director Danielle Conrad had the following reaction:

“After Nebraska’s Attorney General Doug Petersen helped to manufacture a political crisis against all Dreamers and President Trump recklessly ended the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program with no safety net the wellbeing and livelihood of over 3,300 young Nebraskans continues to hang in the balance. Yesterday we learned that President Trump is further endangering Dreamers’ futures by refusing to entertain Congressional negotiations that contemplated a permanent solution for Dreamers would be included in an upcoming funding bill. that an upcoming government funding bill. This is unacceptable.”

“Dreamers should not have to spend the holidays wondering if they will be forced to leave the country they call home. Despite President Trump’s false reassurances that Dreamers would have ‘nothing to worry about,’ DACA recipients and other young immigrants have faced renewed threats and attacks in the wake of these cruel actions. We renew our call to the Nebraska Congressional delegation to stand with Nebraska business leaders, faith leaders, education leaders, our Unicameral, and Nebraska Dreamers by passing the Dream Act with all deliberate speed.”
