ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero released this statement:

Known as a visionary investor, Bob was also a visionary philanthropist. Through the Robert W. Wilson Charitable Trust, he established the Legacy of Liberty Challenge, inspiring thousands of ACLU supporters to pledge over $200 million in legacy gifts. By inspiring others—and through his own extraordinary philanthropy—Bob made a lasting difference to the issues he cared about. He was passionate about criminal justice reform, and the need to provide justice to those who are imprisoned. A member of the ACLU for more than four decades, Bob gave a voice to those who have been silenced, and hope to those who had long given up on the system. The ACLU is forever grateful for the deep impact Bob has made, and we take comfort in knowing that his commitment to justice lives on through his legacy.
