Helena, Mont. — Caitlin Borgmann, Executive Director of the ACLU of Montana, contacted Senator Steve Daines today over concerns that Montanans are being blocked from accessing and engaging with Senator Daines.

The letter was sent after the ACLU of Montana was contacted by Montana residents who have been blocked and censored from Sen. Daines’ official government Twitter account. Censoring constituents violates First Amendment rights to free expression and the right to petition government officials.

Senator Daines has highlighted social media as a crucial forum for communications between an elected official’s office and constituents.

The ACLU of Montana has invited Senator Daines to contact Caitlin Borgmann if he wishes to discuss this matter further.

A copy of the letter is attached and can be viewed on the ACLU of Montana’s website.
