DES MOINES – The ACLU Foundation of Iowa is pleased announce the hire of Jeanine Simnick, an experienced development professional who will take the state affiliate’s fundraising efforts to the next level.

Moving from St. Louis to Iowa, Simnick has 14 years of non-profit development experience. Most recently, she was the director of development for the largest homeless youth facility in St. Louis, Covenant House. She also has worked in development in higher education and at a hospice. She will receive her masters’ degree in non-profit management this spring.

“I’m excited to have this opportunity,” says Simnick. “I look forward to doing what I can to help strengthen and support our most basic freedoms in Iowa.”

“Jeanine has excellent experience in non-profit development work, including launching a new program with an emphasis on personal visits,” said ACLU of Iowa Executive Director Ben Stone.

Also, the timing for a development hire is optimal, Stone says. The ACLU of Iowa is embarking on an Immigrants’ Rights Initiative and will be hiring additional staff to implement that initiative. “Creating a development position allows the ACLU of Iowa to build our fundraising capacity and a strong foundation on which to advocate for civil liberties in our state.”

Every month, you'll receive regular roundups of the most important civil rights and civil liberties developments. Remember: a well-informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.
