ACLU of Georgia Ready to Defend Cities and Institutions
The American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia stands ready to defend any municipality or institution threatened by President Donald Trump’s executive orders on immigration, the affiliate’s executive director Andrea Young said today.
“We applaud Mayor Kasim Reed for his statement in defense of Atlanta’s reputation for protecting civil and human rights,” said Young. “We stand ready to defend the City of Atlanta, the City of Clarkston, and any municipality or institution threatened by President Trump’s policies.”
On Wednesday, President Trump signed executive orders threatening to defund cities and states that protect people’s rights without regard to immigration status, authorizing funding for the building of a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, and dramatically ramping up immigration detention.
Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed condemned the President’s actions and pledged “that Atlanta city government will stand firm in its commitment to inclusivity and diversity, and will remain open and welcoming to all.”
