ACLU Comment on US House Passage of 'Sanctuary Cities' Bill

WASHINGTON – In a 241-179 vote, the U.S. House of Representatives today passed the “Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act.” The American Civil Liberties Union is among abroad spectrum of organizations opposing the bill.
Joanne Lin, ACLU legislative counsel, said:
“This bill criminalizes immigrant communities, jeopardizes public safety, and undermines the ability of local police to combat crime and safeguard against racial profiling. Knee-jerk reactions like this lead to bad public policy. The Senate should reject such misguided legislation.”
