NEW YORK — A federal court has ruled that the Trump administration must satisfactorily explain why it has removed its census lawyer team.

The American Civil Liberties Union, New York Civil Liberties Union, and Arnold & Porter made the request in a motion filed last night.

ACLU Voting Rights Project Director Dale Ho had this reaction to today’s ruling:

“The Justice Department owes the public and the courts an explanation for its unprecedented substitution of the entire legal team that has been working on this case. The Trump administration is acting like it has something to hide, and we won’t rest until we know the truth.”
