NEW YORK — The Trump administration is reportedly looking into new options that could once again rip children apart from their immigrant parents or keep families languishing in detention indefinitely. The Washington Post reported the story today.

The American Civil Liberties Union successfully blocked the Trump administration’s first family separation policy, forcing the reunification of thousands of families who had been torn apart.

Lee Gelernt, deputy director of the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project and lead attorney in the lawsuit challenging the policy, had this reaction to today’s report:

“The Trump administration’s family separation policy was a failure of epic proportions. The courts and public clearly rejected it. The government should be putting all of its resources into reuniting kids who are still waiting — not going back to the drawing board to do further damage. It is deeply disturbing that this administration continues to look for ways to cause harm to small children.”
