NEW YORK — The following comment is in response to reports that President Trump may take executive action to get a citizenship question on the census after the Supreme Court blocked it.

The American Civil Liberties Union, New York Civil Liberties Union, and Arnold & Porter had successfully challenged the question on behalf of immigrants’ rights groups.

Dale Ho, director of the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, said today:

“The Supreme Court has spoken. The Trump administration’s effort to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census is unlawful. If President Trump takes executive action, we will take legal action.”
