WASHINGTON — Today, Rep. Terri A. Sewell (D-Ala. 7th Congressional District) announced the introduction of the H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, in the 117th Congress.

Sophia Lin Lakin, Deputy Director of the ACLU Voting Rights Project, said:

“Congress has an obligation to protect the right to vote. This past year we’ve seen innumerable attacks on the right to vote — more than 400 anti-voter bills have been introduced in 48 states. These bills erect unnecessary barriers for people to register to vote, vote by mail, or vote in person.

“The price of inaction is high, and history shows it. Congress must pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and protect the right to vote for all Americans.”
