ACLU Comment on House Health Care Bill Impact
WASHINGTON — The Congressional Budget Office released a report today on the impact of the health care bill passed by the House of Representatives, called the “American Health Care Act.”
Faiz Shakir, American Civil Liberties Union national political director, had the following reaction:
“A bill that throws 23 million people off their coverage, guts Medicaid, and blocks patients from Planned Parenthood is an assault on our nation’s public health and an attack on the rights of Americans.
“It was incredibly irresponsible for the House of Representatives to hold a vote on legislation to overhaul one-sixth of the U.S. economy without first knowing how much it would cost or how many people it would affect. It’s unconscionable for elected representatives to push for a future in which one out of every six Americans don’t have health insurance.
“The millions of people across the country who have flooded town halls and Congressional phone lines in recent months will be demanding that senators declare the House repeal bill dead on arrival.”
