ACLU Comment on Failed Senate Immigration Votes
WASHINGTON — The Senate voted today on four immigration proposals that failed.
Lorella Praeli, American Civil Liberties Union director of immigration policy and campaigns, said:
“The message is clear — today a supermajority of the Senate soundly rejected President Trump’s extremist proposal. This proposal was a massive assault on civil liberties. It aimed to further militarize our border, erode due process, criminalize migration, encourage racial profiling, and hugely expand the deportation dragnet.
“Now it is time to address the immediate risk young Americans face and stop using them as a bargaining chip for Trump’s mass deportation agenda. When the president ended DACA, he said Dreamers have nothing to worry about. We can’t wait any longer. It is time for the president to live up to his promise.”
