ACLU Comment on Bill to Preserve Birth Control in Insurance Coverage

WASHINGTON — The ACLU announced its support for a bill introduced today in both chambers of Congress that would stop new Trump administration rules allowing employers and universities to deny birth control coverage on the basis of religious or moral objections.

The Protect Access to Birth Control Act was introduced by Sens. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) and Bob Casey (D-Pa.) in the Senate and Reps. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.), Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.), Judy Chu (D-Calif.), and Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) in the House.

“The ACLU will fight the Trump administration with every tool we’ve got as they try to deny women health care. Employers and universities should not be able to impose their beliefs on employees and students and discriminate against women by denying them access to contraception. We urge Congress to pass the Protect Access to Birth Control Act and resist the Trump administration’s illegal efforts.”
