ACLU Calls for Questioning on Russia, Trump During Sessions Testimony

WASHINGTON — Attorney General Jeff Sessions is testifying on the Department of Justice budget Tuesday in the House and in the Senate. The ACLU is urging the subcommittee members that will participate in the hearings to take this opportunity to question Sessions about his own role with Russia, his role in the Comey firing, and the ongoing investigations into ties with Russia and his recusal.

“After former FBI Director Comey’s testimony, it is clear that the American people need to hear from Attorney General Sessions about his involvement with Russia, in the firing of Comey, and any role he has played in the investigations into Russia and Trump officials as well as his reported recusal,” said Christopher Anders, deputy director of the ACLU’s Washington Legislative Office. “Our founding fathers formed a republic that is ultimately up to us, the people, to preserve. All Americans need to have our senators and House members use this opportunity to get answers.”

The organization is asking its over 2 million supporters to contact their representatives and urge them to ask Sessions tough questions about his involvement in Comey’s firing, the investigation into Russia, and his recusal. The ACLU is also asking its followers in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas to attend the hearings. The ACLU is urging Senate and House leadership to move the hearings to larger rooms to accommodate growing public interest, and to ensure that Sessions is sworn in before testifying.

The ACLU sent letters to the subcommittees in the House and Senate detailing key areas for the questioning of Sessions during the hearings.
