ACLU And Over 130 Organizations Call For Judiciary Committee Oversight of Trump Executive Orders on Immigration

WASHINGTON — The ACLU and more than 130 organizations are calling on the Senate and House Judiciary Committee to hold rigorous oversight hearings to investigate the implementation of the three executive orders related to immigration issued by President Trump.

Joanne Lin, ACLU senior legislative counsel, issued the following statement:

“President Trump unleashed his presidency with a series of executive orders on immigration that have devastated immigrant and refugee communities, provoked protests around the world, and sparked several court battles. These orders are ripe with civil rights violations and riddled with constitutional red flags. The ACLU calls on Congress to conduct rigorous oversight over these executive orders.”

The letter asks for Congress to immediately hold hearings to investigate the implementation of the executive orders on border security, interior enforcement, and the refugee and Muslim ban.

The Senate Judiciary Committee and House Judiciary Committee are responsible for oversight of the Justice Department and the Department of Homeland Security, with a focus on issues implicating the Constitution.
