ACLU Submission to the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights on the Death Penalty in the U.S.

On March 29, the ACLU submitted an update on the death penalty in the United States since April 2012 to the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights. The submission will contribute to the U.N. Secretary General’s 2013 report to the Human Rights Council on the death penalty. The document updates previous ACLU submissions on the death penalty in the U.S. in areas such as: positive developments towards abolition of the death penalty, the imposition of the death penalty on the mentally ill and intellectually disabled, the arbitrary and disproportionate imposition of the death penalty, failure to protect the innocent, and inadequate counsel and insufficient access to resources.
