ACLU Letter Urging Congress to Include Voting Provisions in COVID-19 Legislation

Document Date: April 8, 2020

In this follow up letter, the ACLU again strongly urges inclusion in the next stimulus legislation specific provisions to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the 2020 elections. As recently demonstrated Ohio, Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin, states and counties are unprepared to address the seismic shift in election administration necessary to ensure the 2020 elections can proceed safely during the pandemic, without diminishing the fundamental right to vote. We reiterate from our March 20 letter and March 22 letter that Congress must enact substantial federal funding immediately and federal requirements for no-excuse mail-in absentee voting and early in-person voting.
