Bio

Steve Smith is the Deputy Chief Communications Officer at ACLU, where he heads a team of professionals responsible for communications strategy, media relations and brand marketing. Since joining ACLU in 2013, he has lead communications efforts to win marriage equality, reduce incarceration levels, and bring new visibility to the organization through the 2016 election and inauguration of Donald Trump.

Steve’s experience in advocacy communications includes work at agencies, Fenton and Futerra, and for Greenpeace, in the organization’s Washington, D.C., and Bangkok offices, as well as the international headquarters in Amsterdam. He holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations and Spanish from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He lives in Brooklyn with his husband, Ian, and their dog, Callie.
