Bio

Bernardo Rafael Cruz joined the ACLU of Texas in 2018 as an Immigrants’ Rights Fellow based in the El Paso office. Prior to joining the ACLU, Bernardo worked as a staff attorney for a non-profit law firm in Yakima, Washington representing farm workers in complex trial and appellate litigation, class actions, and legislative advocacy focused on civil rights and employment law.

Bernardo was born in El Paso, TX and raised in its sister city of Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. He is excited to return to his home area and focus on the area of immigrants’ rights. He obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Texas at El Paso and received his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law. During law school, Bernardo clerked at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights in San Jose, Costa Rica and interned at the Center for Justice and International Law in Washington, D.C.
